Indigenous Peoples Day Bill Advances –Time for the Final Push!!

On July 12th, the Joint Committee on State Administration finally voted in favor of S.2027 / H.3191 – An Act to Establish an Indigenous Peoples Day in Massachusetts. The bill had been held up in committee since September of 2021, despite unprecedented grassroots support from around the state. Now, with just two and a half weeks to go before the legislative session ends, your help is needed to push the bill over the final hurdle. Please, fill out the easy to use automated letter to key legislators using the link below. Then, please call your own state legislators. Urge them to support Indigenous Peoples Day for Massachusetts NOW!

The following message comes from MaIndigenousAgenda.org:

Good news about Indigenous Peoples Day in Massachusetts – AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Our statewide Indigenous Peoples Day bills were just favorably voted out of the MA Joint Committee on State Admin. & Regulatory Oversight. Thank you for your support in making that happen!

While that is a great first step, we need your help immediately to try to get this legislation passed before the end of July , when the MA legislative session ends for the year.

We have created an automated online email here: https://bit.ly/IPDMAJuly2022 that will send a message to legislators that you want them to bring this legislation out for a favorable vote so that Massachusetts will officially celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day instead of Columbus Day.

You can use the language that is in the automated email or write your own message – but please do this today and share with your networks! We don’t have much time. Thank you!
