While still early in the planning stage, an upcoming peace walk in support of changing the flag and seal of Massachusetts, from Williamstown, on the New York border, to the statehouse in Boston, was announced June 17 in an interview with changethemassflag.com coordinator David Detmold, of Montague, aired on the National Public Radio affiliate WAMC.

Listen to Berkshire bureau chief Josh Landis interview Detmold here:
As organizers from Mass Peace Action Indigenous Solidarity Group, Mass Catholics for Indigenous Rights, Changethemassflag.com and affiliated organizations work to finalize an itinerary, an approximate starting date for the statewide peace walk to change the flag and seal may fall on or about July 24th, to depart from the NY border at Williamstown, and an approximate arrival date at the statehouse in Boston may fall on or about August 12th. An average pace of 10 miles a day, with rest days, is anticipated.
More information on this walk – – which also aims to raise awareness in solidarity with Community Land and Water Coalition’s ongoing campaign to halt sand mining operations in the fragile ecosystem of the sand barrens around Carver/Plymouth sacred to the Herring Pond Wampanoag – – will be shared soon.
